It's Not Me is a self-willed, explosive filmmaker's response to the question of where he is at now, more than forty years after his first film. The question was indeed posed to Carax, for the material of an ultimately unrealised exhibition originally intended for the Pompidou Centre, and after he pondered the answer, he put together this 41-minute film. In Carax's own words, "This is my self-portrait, but I tried to make mine without any mirror. A self-portrait seen from behind. Or, like in a dream dreamed many years ago: how come I can see myself in that mirror, even though my eyes are closed? — and when I check in the mirror, my eyes are indeed closed."

Leos Carax
Leos Carax, born Alex Christophe Dupont in 1960 to a French father and an American mother, began his career as a critic for Cahiers du Cinéma at the age of 20 before becoming a filmmaker. After a few short films, he made his first feature film, Boy Meets Girl, at 24, which was a critical success at its Cannes premiere and immediately made his mark on the festival circle. His films are a sweeping blend of unbridled, subversive love, combining the grotesque and the tragic with light humour and raucous lyricism. Carax's playful, dynamic visuals are as confident as they are unpredictable. His latest film, It's Not Me, debuted at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
